twenty-two plus one
on saturday, i celebrated 22 laps around the sun + began the 23rd. it was a very full day full of yummy food and celebration + while, yes, i would have much rather spent my day exploring a new city, my day in lindsborg was special nonetheless.
this pandemic season has revealed many truths to me — lessons that i may not have really learned without so much time for reflection + growth. inspired by one of my favorite poets, madisen kuhn, here are 22 things i learned (or re-learned) in the last year.
it’s normal and okay not to know what’s coming next in your life.
let go of what no longer serves you.
hold people accountable when they cross your boundaries.
good things take time.
focusing on work tasks at home is 5x harder than i would have ever expected.
listen to your body; it will tell you what it needs. rest when you need to + don’t forget to drink your water.
presence over perfection.
take that leap, go back to therapy!
pay attention to who is really showing up for you and lean into them.
hey, miss enneagram two, it’s okay to ask for help—there’s no guilt or shame in that.
you are not defined by what makes you anxious.
moving back home as an adult is actually very hard.
i’ve known i am a pisces/aries cusp, but i was technically born 6 hours into aries season.
homemade oat milk might be cheap, but is it worth the mess?
if he wanted to, he would.
everything costs something.
black lives matter more than white comfort.
it’s okay to say no.
while i am looking forward to spending a year or two living in scotland, i deeply miss living in the PNW.
concerts are more than just listening to an artist share their craft; concerts are a community.
that whole “patience is a virtue” adage”? i’ve had to remind myself that a lot this year. it was easy to slow down during lockdown, but once i grew tired of it, i became impatient, which didn’t help my anxiety or impulsivity.
you owe it to yourself to prioritize your own needs first.
finally, one last lesson to practice in this next year
trust that you are capable of good things, + you are deserving of love in all of its forms.
thanks to each of you who took the time to call, text, post, or write me for my birthday. i’ve been especially grateful this year for technology + the ways we’ve all been able to remain connected despite the distance.
talk soon.
